ALGINATE POWDER- Moulding & Impression Material 550g
Alginate is a flexible mould and impression-making material.
Completely safe in direct contact with skin and sets very rapidly, making it the preferred material for making moulds of the face, body, feet and hands.
Also widely used in reproducing small to medium-size objects and patterns or mouldings in plaster and timber, particularly in restoration work.
Form a gel by mixing the Alginate powder with water.
Manufactured from kelp - a variety of seaweed. It reproduces an extremely accurate impression - capturing such detail as the pores of the skin, similar to Latex and Silicone but has the advantage that it sets very quickly and can be separated from the subject within 3 to 4 minutes of application.
It is also clean, economic, easy to apply and does not require a release agent to detach from non-porous surfaces as the mould detaches from the original as it sets.
The powder to water ratio for immersion moulding is around 35-40:100 by weight and when spreading, a stiffer mix is needed - usually 50-60:100. A 550g packet of alginate makes approximately 1.6 litres of gel when mixed 40:100.
