Inorganic – Made using Ultramarine Blue, allowing a completely reliable blend that evokes the aerial effects of the great Venetian decorators.

This name was originally given by English manufacturers to Smalt, a cobalt-based pigment that was used in the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries as a less expensive alternative to Lapis Lazuli.

Unfortunately, Smalt tends to fade into a light grey, as some Veronese skies demonstrate, which won't happen to this modern alternative.

Widely recognised as one of the best Oil Colour Paints available, thanks to the high pigment levels used in their manufacture they give strong colours that are vibrant and true providing great coverage and highly resistant to fading.

Michael Harding Oil paints are made by hand in Wales, adopting techniques dating back to the days of the Old Masters.
