OIL PAINT - Fast Drying - Winsor & Newton GRIFFIN Alkyd - 37ml Tube - Ivory Black
< Back to other colours
A stable all-round black with brown undertones and excellent tinting powers. Its name stems from the traditional method for obtaining it: roasting elephant tusks.
As their name suggests these oil colours dry much more quickly than traditional oil paints, making it possible for glazing techniques and impasto to be done in a single session.
Drying time will be affected by the thickness of the paint and the ambient temperature but as a guide it tends to remain workable on the palette for 4-8 hours and is touch dry in 18-24 hours.
Available 48 tones, this range have a slightly greater level of transparency than traditional oils, providing increased depth and clarity when glazing. They are also a little more fluid in consistency and dry with a more reflective surface.
