TO SKETCH or DRAW FROM LIFE

1. Estimate the size increase or decrease you wish to achieve

2. Hold the dividers at arms length and spread the top points to match the object

3. Put the bottom points on your paper and mark the distance

    

TO COPY FROM PHOTOGRAPHS OR SKETCHES

1. Estimate the size increase or decrease you wish to achieve.

2. Adjust the points of the dividers to match the object

3. Put the other end of the dividers onto the paper and mark the distance

    

TO ENLARGE OR REDUCE SIZE:

1. To enlarge - adjust the brass pivot to required graduation hole. Measure the object with the smallest gap between the points and mark the widest gap between the points on the paper

2. To reduce - adjust the brass pivot to required graduation hole. Measure the object with the widest gap between the points and mark the smallest gap between the points on the paper

FOR CONSISTENT RESULTS

1. Ensure the brass pivot is tight throughout the session

2. When sketching from life keep the points at a constant distance from your eyes by holding the dividers at arms length during the session.
