OIL PAINT - Fast Drying - Winsor & Newton GRIFFIN Alkyd - 37ml tube- Paynes Gray
A dark blue grey made from a mixture of Ultramarine, Mars Black and sometimes Crimson. Named after the 18th c. water-colourist William Payne who created the mixture and often recommended it to his students as an alternative to plain black.
As their name suggests these oil colours dry much more quickly than traditional oil paints, making it possible for glazing techniques and impasto to be done in a single session.
Drying time will be affected by the thickness of the paint and the ambient temperature but as a guide it tends to remain workable on the palette for 4-8 hours and is touch dry in 18-24 hours.
Available 48 tones, this range have a slightly greater level of transparency than traditional oils, providing increased depth and clarity when glazing. They are also a little more fluid in consistency and dry with a more reflective surface.
