OIL PAINT - Fast Drying - Winsor & Newton GRIFFIN Alkyd - 37ml tube- Vermilion Hue
< Back to other colours
An opaque, bright orange red.
The genuine pigment was made from toxic mercuric sulphide, created by the Chinese in the 8th century AD. Vermilion's predecessor Cinnabar was used as early as the 3rd century BC.
As their name suggests these oil colours dry much more quickly than traditional oil paints, making it possible for glazing techniques and impasto to be done in a single session.
Drying time will be affected by the thickness of the paint and the ambient temperature but as a guide it tends to remain workable on the palette for 4-8 hours and is touch dry in 18-24 hours.
Available 48 tones, this range have a slightly greater level of transparency than traditional oils, providing increased depth and clarity when glazing. They are also a little more fluid in consistency and dry with a more reflective surface.
